Clean Cables and Airflow

Clean Cables and Airflow

This one isn't going to be rocket science, but the previous setup of the server rack was that the server was at the top, right below the exhaust fans, with the gaming PC being at the bottom.

Rack:
RackMatic MobiRack 19" 22U

Server:
Inter-Tech 4U 4410 with a length of 685mm

Gaming PC:
Silverstone RM51 with a length of 485mm

This caused the fans to pull air from the top of the server's chassey without being able to actually pull air from the rest of the rack.

Paintover of the new layout, showing the larger server chassey at the bottom with more room for airflow at the back of the gaming PC

Now, it's rearranged and wired differently so the gaming PC is at the top right under the fans and the server is at the bottom, right above the patch panel.

Did it do the trick?
A little. It does help the airflow to the top and the extended area at the back of the gaming PC allows for some air to move further up to the exhaust panel ... but due to the gaming PC actively pushing air to the back, there's a wall of pressure that keeps heat stuck at the back.

For this, I'll have to come up with a way to attach some fans at an angle behind the gaming PC to direct the flow upwards so it can be properly exhausted.

That will come sometime in the future in another post 🦊
